It all began with an Core Curriculum Class…

Going into college I knew that I wanted to do something design related, maybe art related, and figured my best bet would be to line myself up to apply for a graphic design program when I knew where I wanted to go(to be so honest, I knew it was RIT after I visited for the first time in 2015…but why not keep my options open!). But as technology was ever changing and knowing that having a more diverse skillset would help me down the road when looking for my first “big kid” job, I thought New Media Design might be the home to something that I would be missing if I stuck with Graphic Design.

Upon starting my freshmen year in the RIT New Media Design program, we were automatically pushed into learning of course the principals of design, getting comfortable enough with Adobe we could use the pen tool with our EYES CLOSED, we were also pushed to explore animating and using motion graphics which I never saw myself doing. During the Digital ID project I featured in my work, we were tasked to do something out of the box to what we would usually see ourselves doing(hence me using yellow in a design, we love her, but purple is my staple). This was an elements class, a class I figured I would once again repeat the process of read the prompt, create the solution to the prompt, revise, revise, revise, repeat this about 10 more times, then maybe have a final solution! Along that process of revising(total side note) I found out that my older cousin who is essentially by older brother was engaged and his fiancé(now amazing wife three years later) was looking for someone to design invitations for them. At this point I just finished creating my first brand and in depth style guide for a project…how could I transfer that knowledge to a wedding invitation?

Not only did I transfer that knowledge to a wedding invitation…but it blew up into something that lit a fire in me that I would have never expected. This wedding invitation became a four part package of a send out with matching inserts, a customized envelope, and table numbers for the big day. A few weeks before this I was just doing a brand image for an app for an in class project, little did I know I would soon after be creating a brand image not only for my cousins whole wedding, but for my boyfriends brother, for my personal business(still a work in progress), for a local landscaper, and for two more weddings in the years to come. A project meant for our portfolios and to practice skills for our future fueled a love for branding that I would have never found without the revise revise revise our amazing professor drilled into us. This love is now a passion business that will never leave my side and inspire my work where ever I may end up in the future… Thank you Professor Nae <3
